19th June 2008

Hi, my name is Ralph and I was born in ‘78 in Cape Town, South Africa.

I am happily married and have a beautiful two year old son - and another bun in my wifes tummy slowly growing ;-)

I am based in Cape Town, but also have a house in Heidelberg along the N2 on the way to the Garden route so I also spend a lot of time here exploring the Overberg and visiting George as well as Knysna.

My interest in photography began in 1998 - although I must say beautiful images always captured my mind even when I was young. Wanting to become a photographer and actually becoming one seemed like a big step as I didn’t know any photographers who I could approach for help and advice. After calling every photographer in the local yellow pages and not having any luck I realised I would either have to study or explore other options. Not being in a financial position to study, I went to work as a sales rep at a photo retail store in a small town called Fish Hoek. Working here had its advantages as I received a discount when purchasing film as well as being able to print my photographs for ‘free’. After a year or so of shooting weddings, pets, neighbours, landscapes, portraiture and anything else I could get my hands on I landed a job as an office assistant for a local youth culture magazine called blunt then owned by Atoll Media (Saltwater Girl, ZigZag) now owned part by Atoll, Touchline and Media 24. Whilst working my way up the editorial ladder, writing crazy gonzo style features, reviews and snippets and fine-tuning my fashion and sports photography skills, I also did test shoots for models from agencies such as 3d and Storm. After leaving blunt magazine I carried on freelancing photographing weddings, parties and events and then joined full circle magazine where I also worked as a photographer and as an advertising executive for just under three years to December 2007.

It’s now been six months since I’ve gone back full-time into freelancing and I have landed some good jobs with well known personalities, companies and organisations and I’m still having a blast. I have also photographed weddings from Elands Bay on the West Coast to George in the Southern Cape area and even quite a few places, beaches and winefarms inbetween.

Besides photography my interests are my family, the outdoors, red wine, polyticks, having fun and basically just enjoying the beauty which surrounds us by taking in as much as I can before the curtains close.

Well, that being said - here’s looking forward to meeting you, wherever you may be…
